Birds on the brain.

It happened again. This time I was in the park, sitting on the bench enjoying a hot dog from the vendor, and I saw another species of goose. His plumage was very vivid and greatly resembled a Hawaiian shirt pattern. He was staring at me intently and seemed to fix his gaze on my hot dog. Then I’m quite certain I heard him mumbling something about bagels. He took off when he caught site of a woman walking by with an ice cream cone. Very peculiar.

Pizza in the sky.

Alright, this is getting a little bit ridiculous. Yesterday afternoon I was taking the garbage out and as I hauled the bag into the bin, I heard loud honking. So I looked up expecting to see Canada geese in a V-formation, but instead they were in the shape of what could only be described as a pizza. Of course I took this picture. What is going on? This is too much. The guys at Ornithology Club will never believe me. If you want to see the photo up close, check it out on Flickr.

New goose species?

I came across the strangest thing today on one of my usual jaunts through the woods. I was keeping my eyes peeled for the piliated woodpecker, as always, when I noticed what must be a hybrid goose species. It had blue markings on the bill and I could have sworn I heard it speaking in plain English. I assume it was male, and he seemed to be giving himself some sort of inspirational pep talk. He took off before I had a chance to decipher his honking. I’ve been searching through my textbooks all night and I can’t find anything even remotely related to its characteristics. Could I have discovered a new species? I’m going to go out first thing tomorrow to search for it again.
